“Wedding dress” package from Germany yields P3.3M party drugs

DAVAO CITY — Authorities on Tuesday uncovered P3.3-million worth of party drugs contained in a package declared by the shipper as a wedding dress.

In a press station, the Bureau of Customs stationed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA) together with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) stated that they apprehended the claimant of Php 3.3 Million worth of ecstasy tablets in Taytay, Rizal.

The operation was conducted with the Port of NAIA Enforcement and Security Service Customs Anti-illegal Drugs Task Force (ESS – CAIDTF) as part of the NAIA-IADITG. The shipment originated from Germany and was consigned to a certain “Heart Valerine Garcia Cruz” with an address in Taytay, Rizal. 

The shipment was originally declared as a wedding dress but through a thorough examination conducted by BOC-NAIA personnel, a total of 1,993 tablets of ecstasy party drugs were discovered which had an estimated market value of Php 3,388,100.00.

The seized illegal drugs have been turned over to PDEA for further investigation and the possible filing of cases for the violation of RA 9165 also known as the Comprehensive Drugs Act as well as RA 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA). 

Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, BOC-NAIA together with PDEA they have 50 busts for 2021 amounting to a total estimated value of Php 107,026,800.00. The Port of NAIA is determined to continue its border security efforts.
