Davao City readies for possible terror attacks

March 3, 2022 by Eugene Hinutan

DAVAO CITY –– The Task Force Davao (TF-Davao) on Wednesday, March 2, met with personnel of concerned agencies to adopt measures in case of terrorist attacks in the City.

Represented during the meeting held at the TF-Davao headquarters were the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO), Central 911, Public Safety Security Command Center (PSSCC), Davao City Police Office (DCPO), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DCDRRMO) and the Civil Security Unit (CSU).

The officials discussed how to quickly respond should there be a terror attack be it by air, by the sea or by land. Three scenarios were identified such as cases of kidnapping, attacks on the ships anchored around the city and attack on the bulk plant facility in Sasa district in the city.

“We have already identified possible scenarios that might happen in the city. In fact, the meetings that we are conducting are part of our preparations for the said scenarios and how do we address them,” said Col. Darren Comia, the Commander of the TF-Davao.

Comia said they are adopting a lot of security measures so that they can protect Davao City even at its borders and that they continue to heighten their vigilance. “We need to plan everything when it comes to the security of Davao City and ensure that all security forces, including the agencies of the city local government will have appropriate response and reaction,” Comia said.

To hone the capacities of the authorities and the residents on what to do during disasters, the TF-Davao will conduct simulation exercises soon. Comia said due to the heightened vigilance of the military under TF-Davao, they were able to prevent entry of 27 persons who attempted to bring in illegal drugs to the city, and to intercept another three individuals for violating the Comelec gun ban.

“Even if our Covid-19 alert level already eased here in city, we continue to monitor our surroundings and so far we do not expect any untoward incident that might take place this March as we commemorate the founding anniversary of the city,” Comia said. Comia said “your joint security forces, the Davao City Police Office and your Task Force Davao ensure the safety and security of the city.”

“The Davao City Police Office maximizes the deployment of our personnel in all places of convergence considering that indoor and outdoor activities in establishments and offices are now 100 percent allowed since we are now on Alert Level 1. So we are strict in the implementation of the remaining restrictions,” said PMaj. Ma. Teresita Gaspan, the spokesperson of the DCPO.-Newsline Philippines
