DAVAO CITY — The recent Low pressure Are which hit many parts of Mindanao has rendered a village of Davao Oriental isolated and water supply cut off
But the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) First District Engineering Office has assured teh office of Governor Nelson Dayanghirang that the will fast track the restoration of the water supply in Barangay Maglahus in Cateel.
The village was isolated after the rampaging water destroyed the only bridge connecting them to the town center.
District Engineer Cirilo Lasaca in a coordination meeting yesterday with Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Assistant Department Head and Operation Center Manager Francis Jason Bendulo assured that the water supply will be restored by Sunday.
While major groundworks such as installation of water pipes, hose, and other connection have to be done to replace the old water pipes that had collapsed with the bridge, Engr. Lasaca said their team will prioritize the restoration of water supply as soon as possible as water is a number one necessity of the people.
Yesterday, teams from the PDRRMO, Bureau of Fire Protection, Cateel LGU, and the Provincial Social Welfare and Development have distributed food packs to the isolated village by transporting them through rubber boats.
Today, the Provincial Government is set to provide solar lights to the village.
Dayanghirang directed all concerned agencies to expedite assistance to the affected barangays. First District Representative Cong. Corazon Malanyaon has also coordinated with the DPWH to fast track repairs in the affected barangays in the district.
Meanwhile the provincial government of Davao del Norte has yet to declare the San Fernando-Talaingod bridge safe after it was ordered closed due to damage on its foundation due to scouring.-with report from PIO
