DAVAO CITY —President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has joined the entire Filipino-Muslim community in celebrating Eid’l Fitr, hoping the solemn occasion would bring Muslims refreshed spirits and renewed strength for the coming days.
In his message released Monday, President Duterte said the festive conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan gives Muslims the chance to revel in the enlightenment and connection that they have received from Allah.
He expressed unity with Muslims in giving thanks to the Almighty for this blessing and for sustaining them during their month-long fast.
“Indeed, we have been sustained greatly by our faith in the past few years when our nation faced the COVID-19 pandemic. Let us therefore be truly grateful for the constant guidance and provision we have received all throughout this whole ordeal,” he said.
“On this solemn occasion, it is my hope that your spirits are truly refreshed and your strength for the coming days are fully renewed. May this event inspire you to remain models not only of the Islamic faith, but also of goodwill and compassion for all of humanity.”
Eid’l Fitr marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, and is celebrated during the first three days of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar.
