MANILA — Malacañang suspended anew classes at all levels, public and private, as well as government work and the nationwide transport strike enters the second day.
“Executive Secretary Medialdea suspends government work and classes for all levels, public and private, tomorrow, October 17, 2017 due to nationwide transport strike, public health and safety,” the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) posted in their Facebook page late Monday.
“May transport strike, ulan, bagyo at walang masakyan. Baka magkasakit mga kawani ng gobyerno at mga estudyante kung maulanan at walang masakyan,”
PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar said in a text message sent to reporters on Monday evening.
President Rodrigo Duterte declared no classes and no work in government offices on Monday in anticipation of the nationwide transport strike by the transport groups, led by Pinagkaisahang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide.
The group is protesting the government’s public utility vehicle modernization program that seeks to phase out old and dilapidated jeepneys.
