Guv provides motorbikes to boost tax collection

August 26, 2022 by NewsLine Philippines

DAVAO CITY –— Davao Oriental Governor Corazon Malanyaon has provided motorbikes to the town tax collectors of her province.

The governor distributed one motorbike each for the ten towns during the Interfacing and Executive-Legislative Agenda Formulation on August 19, 2022, at Lanes Kita-anan, City of Mati, Davao Oriental.

The municipal mayors themselves received their allocation from Malanyaon.

The local officials thanked the Governor for providing mobility to their town tax collectors as it will help them in reaching taxpayers.

Malanyaon, a certified public accountant and an expert corporate tax lawyer said efficient tax collection is the best way to revive the economy of the province especially now that the world economy is just starting to accelerate.

To reciprocate the effort of the governor, the mayors vowed to double their efforts to improve tax collection to align with the Governor’s thrust and become less dependent to the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA).

Malanyaon has earlier announced that she wants very tax collected especially from those who are using the natural resources in their line of business.

“Taxes is the lifeblood of the government, we must do our share so we can slowly move on given the challenge brought about by the pandemic,” Malanyaon stressed.

“We need revenue generation and strategically think of how to increase our income, especially because our IRA will remarkably reduce by almost half a billion by next year,” she emphasized as the provincial government is facing huge loan as incurred by the previous administration and debt servicing will further hurt the provincial coffers.

Malanyaon challenged the local officials to implement and collect the extraction fees, environment conservation, protection fees and enforce local laws in the collection of shared revenues, particularly the extraction fees on the sand, gravel, and other quarry materials.

During the ELA forum, Engr. Maria Victoria Rodriguez, the Provincial Treasurer, presented the financial state of the province highlighting the revenue generation programs and activities, the concerns real property taxes and extraction fees.

Rodriguez stressed the role of the LGUs in optimizing revenue generation programs and employ strategic measures to elevate and improve revenue collection performance as a means of sustaining and supporting local economic growth “We take significant strides to realize our goals and promote good governance,” she elaborated.

Rodriguez shared the initiatives of the Provincial Treasurer’s Office (PTO) in pursuing E-Governance in response to the widespread use of online application tools and ICT, as this conveniently promotes transparency to streamline government transactions and improve efficiency in the delivery of services.

The provincial government appreciated the city government of City of Mati for taking the lead when it launched the electronic payment and collection system.
