Lamitan City bags its 5th Seal of Good Governance Award

DAVAO CITY — For five consecutive years, Lamitan City in Basilan Province bagged the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance Award (SGLG).

Lamitan City Mayor Roderick H. Furigay received the award from Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos in a ceremony held at Manila Hotel on Thursday, December 15.

Lamitan City is the only city among the three cities under the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) which bagged the prestige.

Furigay was with Vice mayor Hegem Furigay, the members of the City Council and the city government department chief when he received the award.

Aside from the trophy, the DILG awarded Lamitan City seven million pesos (Php7,000,000.00) as incentive for winning the most coveted honor.

The chief executive dedicated the victory to his late wife, then mayor Rose “I dedicate this award to my late wife Mayor Rose because it was during her term when all these developments unfold, she worked for this along with the people of Lamitan City.”

The SGLG is an annual competition spearheaded by the Interior Department, the criteria, it says are anchored on a performance management system that focus on: 1) LGUs’ capacity – to deliver basic services, 2)governance principles -transparency, accountability; and 3) performance – accomplishment of plans, fund utilization and frontline service delivery, and strong leadership is the most crucial basis.-ezc
