ZAMBOANGA CITY – The crime volume in this city is fewer by 670 in 2022 or 24 percent lower compared to the crimes registered the previous year.

Col. Alexander Lorenzo, city police director, said Monday out of the total crime volume of 2,123 recorded last year, 740 incidents or 35 percent are categorized as index crimes while 1,383 incidents or 65 percent fall under non-index crimes.

Index crimes pertain to offenses against person and property, such as murder, homicide, physical injury, carnapping and rape while non-index crimes are violations of special laws such as illegal logging or local ordinances.

“The decrease in crime volume is the result of our intensified anti-criminality campaign,” Lorenzo said.

Records also showed a decrease of 359 cases in 2022 in index crimes, which is 32.6 percent lower compared to 2021.

Non-index crimes in 2022 also dropped by 311 incidents, which is 18.36 percent lower compared to the previous year.

In 2022, the Zamboanga City Police Office has been adjudged as the best city police office nationwide.

Lorenzo was also adjudged as the best police commissioned officer for 2022 in the Zamboanga Peninsula during the 56th National Police Commission Founding Anniversary at Camp Col. Romeo Abendan in this city.
