The Davao City Government and the Davao Light Power Company (DLPC), Incorporated on Friday switched on the San Pedro Street Underground Cabling Project.

This is the second of the five-phased underground cabling system project. The 600-meter project stretches from San Pedro Street to City Hall Drive and the corner of Quirino Avenue. City ordinance No 0152-17, series of 2017 compels all telecommunications providers, DLPC, and all other parties concerned to convert overhead wires to an underground system.

Claveria Street was the first of the five-phased plan of an underground cabling system. The third phase is Magsaysay street and is currently ongoing.

In March 2021, DLPC began the underground cabling construction at San Pedro Street. DLPC president and chief operating officer Rodger Velasco said that the project is the result of the city government’s order to utility companies with overhead lines to bury all electrical, telecommunication, and internet wires and cables underground in key areas of the city.

DLPC and other utility companies coordinated with the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) to begin the work.

“We present to you the new San Pedro Street – no wires, no cables, and no utility post. We look forward to seeing more wireless streets in Davao City in the years to come,” Velasco said.

Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte said that the project made the streets safer and cleaner to look at.

“This would not have been possible without the cooperation of the utilities,” Duterte said.
