Strong quakes disrupt two festivals in Davao region

DAVAO CITY — Two strong eathquakes which shook Davao region and various parts of Mindanao disrupted the 25th Araw ng Tagum in Davao del Norte and the 6th Al’law ng Kalumunan and Bulawan Festivals in the province of Davao de Oro.

The quakes prompted the provincial government of Davao de Oro to susped their activities as a result of the magnitude 6.2 and Magnitude 5.9 earthquakes which took place at 2:02 and 4:47 in the afternoon of March 7 respectively.

Patients inside the Davao de Oro provincial hospital in Maragusan were immediately evacuated from their rooms.

Maragusan was the epicenter of the first quake .

While in Tagum City, the roof of a big mall was destroyed. Whine New Bataan was the epicenter of the secod jolt, all in the province of Davao de Oro.

A landslide also took place in New Bataan which rendered some roads impassable.

With these, developments, the Department of Public Works and Highways issued an advisory to all motorists traveling ing the area.

  • 1. Nabunturan- Mainit Park Road:
  • Passable to all types of vehicles.
  • 2. Nabunturan- Maragusan Road (Manat- Bdry. Magangit checkpoint):
  • Passable to all types of vehicles.
  • 3. Montevista- Compostela- New Bataan- Mati Bdry. Road ( Lanipao to Araibo Bdry.Pantukan, DDO):
  • Passable to all types of vehicles with precaution at Lanipao Section due to threats  of landslide. Equipment on standby.
  • 4. Montevista-Compostela-Mati Road:

The areas identified were rendered impassable to Motorists are advised to take Compostela – Gabi – Magangit Road and New Bataan – Panag – Camanlangan Road for the time being.

Motorists are advised to take safety precautions while driving on the said roads. Stay safe.
