Zamboanga celebrates Women’s month via Marcha de las Mujeres

ZAMBOANGA CITY — The local government here culminated the International Women’s Day celebration on March 8, through a campaign dubbed as Marcha De Las Mujeres: a purple walk for a cause.

The walk started early afternoon at San Jose road and ended at 3:00 pm with a short program in Paseo del Mar.

The month of March has since serve as a venue for every woman to highlight their achievements and discuss continuing and emerging empowerment and gender equality issues in their respective communities.

Proclamation No. 227 series of 1998 provides for the observance of the month of March as Women’s Role in History while Republic Act 6949 series of 1990 declares March 8 of every year as International Women’s Day.

Employees from the city government, representatives from national government agencies, government-owned and controlled corporations, private institutions, civic organizations, and other sectors joined the celebration.

Councilor Lyn de la Peña Diamzon, the committee chair on women and family in Canelar leads the women of her village to participate in that activity. the activity aims to promote gender equality and as they pushed for the women’s development agenda.-Rodolfo Tubilag
