BASILAN CITY, Philippines — The port in the town of Maluso, Basilan would now be able to accommodate more vessels and boats after ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman formally turned over the port expansion project in the said area on November 4.
The P20-million project was funded by the ARMM’s Public Works and Highways through its 2016 infrastructure budget.
Maluso Mayor Hanie Bud said the construction and expansion of the port will help their town to move more goods. “The movement of passengers will now be smoother, and delivery of services will be more efficient,” Mayor Bud added.
The ARMM operates base ports in Jolo, Sulu; Bongao, Tawi-Tawi and Lamitan City, Basilan; as well as sub-ports in the towns of Siasi, Sulu; Maluso, Basilan; and Mapun, Sitangkai, and Sibutu in Tawi-Tawi.
The regional government also exercises regulatory powers over six private ports/wharves operating in the region. -ARMM Bureau of Public Information
