Government forces unearth arms cache in Lanao del Sur

MALABANG, Lanao del Norte — In a joint law enforcement operation in Lanao del Sur Thursday afternoon, April 6, operatives of the 5th Infantry Battalion and Lanao del Sur Provincial Police Office discovered an arms cache that was buried in Sitio Lusong, Barangay Ranao-Raning, Amai Manabilang, Lanao del Sur.

Maj. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, Commander of Joint Task Force ZamPeLan, said the firearms and ammunition were owned and buried by Saidamen Baratomo, a.k.a. Lomala.

The cache consisted of one 50 caliber Sniper rifle, one M14 rifle, one fully loaded magazine for 7.62mm, and one fully loaded magazine for cal. 50mm.

All recovered firearms and ammunition were turned over to the AFP intelligence unit in the area for documentation and proper disposition.

“Together with our partners from other agencies, we will continue to go after individuals and groups who are considered menaces of society. We will focus more on promoting internal security in our joint area of operations, and we expect more positive outcomes,” Lt. Gen. Roy Galido, Commander of Western Mindanao Command, said.
