KIDAPAWAN CITY – The local government here released on Monday P316,000 to athletes from this city who won in the recently held Soccsksargen Regional Athletic Association (SRAA) Meet.
The regional sports meet was held here on April 24-28.
Each of the 41 gold medalists received PHP5,000; each of the 37 silver medalists, P3,000; and each of the 108 bronze medalists, P1,000.
City Mayor Jose Paolo Evangelista said it was “a way of recognizing their efforts and talents in bringing the name of the city,”
Evangelista led the distribution of the cash incentives and certificates of recognition to the medalists at the city gymnasium.
The mayor said that they increased the incentives for the city athletes “from the previous offer of PHP3,000 and PHP 2,000 for the gold and silver placers, respectively.”
City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Natividad Ocon, congratulated all the athletes in performing their best as well as the city government for its all-out support.
The five-day sports meet was participated by at least 5,000 athletes and coaches from eight schools divisions in Soccsksargen.
The schools divisions that participated in the activity included the cities of General Santos, Koronadal, Tacurong, and Kidapawan, and the provinces of South Cotabato, Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat and North Cotabato.
General Santos City garnered the most number of gold medals in the SRAA with 117 in the regular sports, nine in demo sports, and 18 in the para-games.
Evangelista said “all the winning city athletes are from our primary and secondary schools.”
