BASILAN – Basilan General Hospital commenced its upgraded operations on Independence Day after receiving permission from the Department of Health (DOH) to expand its capacity to 100 beds.

The DOH has provided the hospital with modern equipment, enabling them to accommodate a wider range of patients and eliminate the need to transfer certain cases to Zamboanga City.

Having operated with 25 beds for the past 24 years, Basilan General Hospital faced challenges in managing patient care during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Efforts were made by provincial officials, led by Congressman Mujiv Hataman, to enhance and modernize the hospital’s facilities.

During a ceremony held to mark the occasion, Congressman Hataman expressed his appreciation to the DOH for granting the request. He was joined by other representatives who have been instrumental in supporting the bill aimed at upgrading hospitals within the region.

In an exciting announcement, Hataman unveiled his vision to further expand Basilan General Hospital to a 500-bed capacity. This expansion plan, located in Isabela City, Basilan Province, has received full support from the DOH without any objections.

Dr. Sitti Nurussamsi Amilhasan, the medical chief of Basilan General Hospital, took the opportunity to extend her gratitude to Congressman Mujiv Hataman, former Congressman Candu Muarip, Isabela City Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin Hataman, and other stakeholders for their support and dedication in improving and expanding the hospital’s capacity.
