DAVAO CITY –— The war against illegal drugs in Davao region is still on, said Philippine National Police (PNP) XI Regional Director Police Brigadier General Alden Delvo.

Delvo in a courtesy visit to Davao Oriental Governor N. Malanyaon at the Provincial Capitol on June 2, told the governor about the campaign of the police to prevent the resurgence of illegal drugs  in Davao region.

Malanyaon, who also sits as the chairperson of the Regional Development Council (RDC) asked Delvo about the status of the illegal drugs trade in the region saying the peace and order of the region should always be stable for investors to come in.

During their exchange notes, Delvo briefed Malanyaon about the drug situation in the Davao Region, emphasizing the shipment of illegal drugs from regions in Mindanao  to Davao, stressing the drug corridors and the potential market in Davao region are vast which invite illegal drug peddlers to come in.

“We are relentless in our campaign and despite the peaceful environment we have here, we cannot let our guards down and our campaign against criminality continues,” Delvo explained to the governor.

“We are at war with criminality, we are at war with insurgency, and certainly we are at war with drugs. As long as the drug menace is still on, the drug was is still on,” Delvo remarked.

For her part, Malanyaon said the provincial government supports the campaign of the PNP as she cited that she wanted Davao Oriental to be “drug-free” by 2024.

The governor has a standing order to the members of the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) to focus their attention on drug prevention and monitor the borders.

The provincial government strengthened its sports program for all sectors.

“We are serious in our drive against criminality and the campaign against drugs and I am hoping that the PNP will not let their guards down,” Malanyaon emphasized.
