OZAMIZ CITY – Ozamiz City in Misamis Occidental has made significant progress in combating illegal drug trade, with 17 barangays declared drug-cleared. Under the leadership of former President Rodrigo Duterte, who implemented the war on drugs in 2016, the city has seen improvements in the peace and order situation.

Efforts by local officials and Governor Henry Oaminal have contributed to the reduction of fear among the residents. Police Major Dennis Tano, Chief of Ozamiz City Police Station, emphasized the positive changes in the city, noting that it has successfully maintained a drug-free environment.

Authorities are closely monitoring entry points, including the Port of Ozamiz, to prevent the smuggling of contraband. The police force is committed to maintaining the achieved stability and peace that the people of the city now enjoy.

After dismantling illicit activities conducted by major syndicates involved in the drug trade, residents have reported a decrease in their concerns. The progress is attributed to the proactive efforts of the provincial and local government units, particularly under the leadership of Governor Henry S. Oaminal’s Team Asenso Administration.

Out of the 51 barangays in Ozamiz City, 17 have been declared drug-cleared, and the remaining 7 are expected to follow suit through the Community Based Drug Rehabilitation Program this July.

The transformation of Ozamiz City from a previous hotspot for illegal drugs to a peaceful and orderly city is a notable achievement.
