Carabaos Parade the Streets of Isabela City in Basilan for Cathedral Parish Feast

BASILAN – The streets of Isabela City came alive as carabaos paraded during the celebration of the Cathedral Parish Feast. Farmers proudly showcased their products while riding carts pulled by these majestic creatures.

The event, known as “Wow Carabao,” featured the participation of nine individuals from Isabela City, Basilan. It took place at Plaza Isabela on July 5, marking the 173rd Feast of the Cathedral Parish of Sta. Isabel de Portugal. The initiative was organized by the local government in collaboration with the City Tourism Office and the Knights of Columbus.

The competition brought forth the enthusiasm of participants, with Jerwin Fernandez from Barangay Tabiawan emerging as the champion. Fernandez received a well-deserved cash prize of 10,000 pesos for his outstanding performance.

Other notable winners include Aries Toledo from Barangay Lanote, who secured the second place and was awarded 7,000 pesos, and Jhone Mark Ramos from Barangay Tabiawan, who placed third and received a cash prize of P5,000.

To add to the festive atmosphere, an additional consolation prize of P2,000 was given to the remaining participants, providing recognition for their participation and efforts.

Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman showed her support for the celebration, emphasizing the significance of cultural activities in showcasing the rich heritage of Isabela City.

The “Wow Carabao” event not only brought joy and excitement to the locals but also highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting the cultural traditions of the community. It served as a reminder of the deep connection between the people of Isabela City and their cherished carabaos.

As the carabaos paraded through the streets, the event captured the spirit of unity and pride, reflecting the vibrant cultural identity of Isabela City.
