BUKIDNON – Project development officers have successfully rescued associations belonging to the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) beneficiaries in Northern Mindanao, ensuring their continuity and preventing them from ceasing operations. This intervention was necessary as association officers showed a lack of interest in sustaining their chosen livelihood projects.

Elfe Martinez, president of the San Isidro Farmer’s Sustainable Livelihood Program Association (SLPA) in Barangay Adtuyon, Pangantucan, Bukidnon, revealed that many of her fellow farmers had lost enthusiasm for continuing their farming businesses.

However, a glimmer of hope emerged when a project development officer stepped in to assist the association by providing program reorientation.

“The impact of the PDOs on our group has been significant. They have reignited our enthusiasm,” shared Martinez. She further added, “Now, we are eager to plan our next activities.”

Martinez also expressed gratitude for the technical assistance provided by SLP PDO Charity Sale, the worker assigned to Pangantucan, Bukidnon. Sale lightened their burden by offering her expertise.

The association primarily focuses on farming activities, particularly the cultivation of high-value crops. However, despite members being familiar with farming from a young age, they needed a renewed commitment to sustaining their chosen livelihood projects.

The association members had become discouraged due to a lack of commitment among themselves. Fortunately, after the intervention made by the workers, the association received financial assistance amounting to P450,000. This injection of funds aims to support their livelihood endeavors and provide them with the necessary resources to succeed.

The efforts of the project development officers in reviving and strengthening these associations under the Sustainable Livelihood Program highlight their dedication to fulfilling their mandate. By providing guidance, technical assistance, and financial support, they have empowered these beneficiaries to continue their livelihood pursuits and improve their socio-economic conditions.
