DSWD Secretary presents food stamp program to BARMM chief minister

BANGSAMORO – During a visit to Sultan Kudarat in Maguindanao del Norte on Friday, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian presented the Food Stamp Program (FSP) to Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim. The discussion centered on how the FSP can aid BARMM in addressing “involuntary hunger” among the food-poor residents of the autonomous region.

Under the “Walang Gutom 2027” program, DSWD aims to provide monthly food credits worth P3,000 to one million households identified as food poor. The six-month pilot run of the program will be funded by a close to $3 million grant from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), with additional support from the World Food Program.

Secretary Gatchalian revealed that President Marcos instructed him to ensure the program’s nationwide rollout by the end of the pilot run in December 2023.
