TAWI-TAWI – Authorities intercepted a maritime vessel carrying 250 drums of undocumented petroleum products during a Maritime Interdiction Operation in the waters near Panampangan Island, Panglima Sugala, Tawi-Tawi on Friday.

The vessel, identified as MB Annabel, was found to be transporting a significant quantity of undocumented petroleum oil lubricant products, including diesel. The discovery was made as part of a proactive operation to ensure compliance with regulations.

The confiscated shipment amounts to approximately 50,000 liters of petroleum products, with an estimated market value of around P3 million.

The operation also led to the apprehension of the vessel’s 11 crew members who were on board during the interception. The MB Annabel, along with its crew and the confiscated items, was promptly taken to Bongao Pier in Tawi-Tawi.

The authorities will transfer the vessel and the seized items to the custody of the Bureau of Customs Tawi-Tawi for proper disposition in accordance with legal procedures.

Such actions are critical not only for safety and security reasons but also to prevent illegal activities that can have far-reaching economic and environmental consequences.
