DAVAO CITY – On the evening of September 26th this year, Tanawon Joerey captured a video documenting the actual construction of a riprap in Sitio Sambunotan, Barangay Malamba, Marilog District, Davao City.

The video footage depicts the gradual placement of rocks on the ground as part of the riprap construction at the site.

However, the workers involved in the construction had to abruptly halt their operations due to a sudden incident. Reports suggest that one worker was injured after a portion of the hillside collapsed, burying him under the earth. Thankfully, no lives were lost in the landslide.

According to sources, the foundation of the ground on which the riprap was being constructed had become unstable due to continuous rainfall in the area over the past few days.

The Bojus Sun Builders and Supply Corporation is the contractor for the project, which commenced construction on March 9th of this year. The project was initially slated for completion by October 5th of the following month.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Davao City II District Engineering Office is the implementing agency for this project, with a contract amounting to PHP 47,532,440.70. The funds were sourced from the 2023 General Appropriations Act.

Dean Ortiz, spokesperson for DPWH XI, declined to comment on the extent of the damage caused by the landslide.
