DAVAO – In a surprising incident on November 9, 2023, at 7 am, a 14-wheeler truck fell into an unexpected sinkhole along the Davao-Cotabato Highway in Sitio Flortam, Barangay Batasan, Makilala, Cotabato Province. According to residents, there were no visible signs of a hole on the road surface, and the vehicle suddenly plunged into the ground, revealing a large cavity beneath.

The portion of the road where the incident occurred lacked reinforcement underneath the concrete. Ideally, there should have been metal supports beneath the cemented road. Residents expressed concern over the absence of these reinforcements, highlighting the potential dangers associated with poorly constructed infrastructure.

Local authorities are currently investigating the incident, emphasizing the need for thorough inspections and necessary repairs to prevent similar accidents in the future. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining and ensuring the structural integrity of roads and highways for the safety of motorists and the public.
