Mother and son killed over land row

PIKIT, North Cotabato – An unidentified suspect shot and killed a businesswoman and her son in Barangay Poblacion, Pikit, Cotabato province, Tuesday morning, January 9.

The killing happened just near a polcie checkpoint, The building of the victims is located fronting the the municipal hall and the public plaza.

Land dispute, police theorized could have trigged the killings. The property of the victims is strategically located in a busy area at the town center.

The accident happened despite the large number of police and soldiers assigned to the town due to the seemingly unstoppable shooting cases in the town known as Bayang Marikit.

Police Major John Arvin Cambang, the town police chief said the latest victims were Betty Cadulong-Lu, from Notre Dame Drive, Barangay Poblacion and owner of Pikit Highway Halal Karenderya and her son Jonard, 47 years old.

According to Cambang, the victims were busy managing their kitchen when a suspect arrived on a motorcycle and immediately shot them.

Mrs. Lu died on the spot while her son died at the hospital.

Mrs. Lu is the sister of Dr. Roberto Cadulong, owner of the Cadulong hospital in Pikit town was killed in 2021 while joggingh around th epoblacion area.

The CCTV of the incident is now also at the custody of the police.

Based on the footages, two of the suspects went inside the cafeteria while two others served as lookout.

The PNP’s investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to Cambang. The problem with the series of shootings in the town of Pikit has been going on for a long time but until now it seems that the authorities have not been able to provide a solution.
