44K families evacuate in Davao Region due to flooding, landslides

DAVAO CITY — A total of 44,888 families with 187, 108 individuals have evacuated in various provinces in Davao Region since Tuesday as the number continue to increase while Shear line brought about northwest monsoon enter its fourth day.

As of Wednesday night, the Office of Civil Defense XI recorded that of the total number of families affected, 1,990 families or 6,709 persons are staying inside the evacuation centers in their respective provinces; Davao de Oro – 1,489 families/4,881; Davao Oriental – 294 families/1,130 individuals and Davao del Norte Davao del Norte – 267 families/1,098 individuals.

In Davao del Norte, the provincial government reported flooding in thirty one (31) villages from three towns and Panabo City, all areas affected are located in a lowland communities near the rivers, the water basins and river tributaries of Agusan river.

The governors in the affected provinces have deployed a 24/7 monitoring team led by the City and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Office in coordination with the local Coast Guard and Bureau of Fire Protection stationed in the areas.

Flooding

Affected barangays include Macgum, Suawon, Limbaan, Poblacion, New Cortez, New Bohol, Del pilar, Mesaoy, New Sambong, Sta. Cruz and Sto. Niño in New Corella town; Barangays Manay and San Francisco in Panabo City; Barangays Pagasa, Kapalong and Dujali in the municipality of Braulio E. Dujali; Barangays Canatan, Doña Andrea, Cabaywa, Concepcion, New Santiago, Camoning, Magatos, Sagayen, Sta. felomina, Cambanogoy, Sonlon, Budad, Napungas and Pamacua, in the town of Asuncion.

Landslides

Since Tuesday, the Office of Civil Defense recorded six (6) landslides were recorded in Davao de Oro affecting seven villages from the towns of Nabunturan, Monkayo and Maco.

Roads and bridges affected

As of Wednesday night, the OCD reported a total of eight ( 8 ) roads not passable to all types of vehicles Due to Landslide Blockage namely: Brgy. Camanlangan, New Bataan (National) – Brgy. Rizal, Monkayo (National Road) – Brgy. Sawangan, Mawab (National Road) – Brgys. Bahi, Tupas and Paloc, Maragusan (National Road) – Brgy. Aragon and So Hulip, Cateel (Provincial Road).

A total of two (2) bridge not passable to all types of vehicles due to Scouring of bridge approach are are located in Fatima Bridge at Fatima, New Bataan, Davao de Oro.

The provincial governments gave the local government officials the discretion in declaring class and work suspension given the situation.

The Local officials have provided food packs to the affected residents while the evacuation still continue.

The municipal government of Asuncion have declared barangay Cambanogoy under the state of Calamity.
