DAVAO CITY — A passenger at the Davao International Airport who was flying to Singapore landed in jail after he was arrested by the airport police for a bomb joke on Friday, May 3.

According to the Davao International Airport Police Station, a 42-year-old man was at Counter 8 of an airline check-in counter, preparing to board Flight TR361 bound for Singapore, when he made a bomb joke.

Instead of standing in line to board the plane, he suddenly said in vernacular “Nothing is breakable here Ma’am, it’s just a bomb, it’s just a joke Ma’am, sorry, Ma’am”.

The customer service agent quickly asked him about his luggage and his three companions. He insisted that he was just joking.

However, the customer agent alerted airport security and a member of the Davao International Airport Police Station (DIAPS) quickly arrived and arrested the passenger for violating Presidential Decree 1727, also known as the Anti-Bomb Joke Law.

The arrested passenger was taken to the Southern Philippines Medical Center for medical examination and transferred to the Sasa Police Station for temporary detention.

A case of violation of the Anti-Bomb Joke Law will be filed against the passenger.

The passenger who was originally flying to Singapore landed at the Sasa police precinct.

In this regard, the public is reminded that Presidential Decree No. 1727 imposes a prison sentence not exceeding five (5) years, or a fine not exceeding forty thousand pesos (P40,000.00) for bomb jokes.-Paul T. Palacio
