Customs uncovers over P68.6 million worth of party drugs concealed in dog food packs

DAVAO CITY-—.The Bureau of Customs on Wednesday uncovered P68.661.300 worth of party drugs concealed in four dog food packs at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Bureau of Customs revealed that they detected something was suspicious when the package passed through the Xray machine and immediately coordinated with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) to scan the suspected package which led to the discovery of the party drugs.

Upon physical examination, the assigned Customs Examiner found 13,989.56 grams, equivalent to 40,389 tablets of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, popularly known as Ecstasy with a street value of PhP68,661,300 million, originating from the Netherlands.

Four individuals associated with the shipment, including the claimant, were promptly arrested for violation of RA 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, and RA 10863, also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).

Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio said the discovery is the result of his agency’s fight against illegal drugs which is “aligned with the directives of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.,” not to allow entry of illegal drugs and hazardous substances enter the country.-EZC
