DAVAO CITY — Tagum City Mayor Rey Uy has filed a complaint against Davao del Norte First District Representative Pantaleon Alvarez before the Committee on Ethics at the House of Representatives for his alleged “habitual absences and libelous remarks against public officials” among others.

Ako Bikol party-list Rep. Raul Angelo Bongalon, vice chairman of the committee on Ethics and Privileges, said Uy filed a complaint against Alvarez before the ethics committee for his “habitual absences, libelous remarks against public officials, and seditious remarks which he made during rallies.”

The complaint focused on Alvarez’s call to both the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines to withdraw their support to President Marcos, Jr., during the April 14 prayer rally organized by Hugpong ng Pagbabago at the Provincial Sports Complex in Tagum City .

Bongalon said the Committee sent a letter to Alvarez in both an electronic and registered mail to the former House Speaker at his residence and his office last Friday.

The Committee gave Alvarez ten days to respond to Uy’s complaint.

Uy is the father of Davao del Norte acting Governor De Carlo Uy, who now sits as the highest political leader of the province while Governor Edwin I. Jubahib is serving his 60 days preventive suspension issued by the Office of the President over an issue involving the withdrawal of the now returned government vehicle to a board member.

The Uy’s and Alvarez ran and won in 2019 mid-term elections under one political ticket, the Partido Demokratiko ng Pilipinas-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) but their political marriage lasted for less than three years.

In the 2022 national elections, the Uy’s abandoned Alvarez and joined Vice President Sara Duterte’s regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago which later allied with the party of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and formed UniTeam,

Three weeks ago, Hugpong ng Pagbabago booted out the Uy’s through a notice.
