Government agencies directed to include Bagong Pilipinas hymn and Pledge in weekly flag ceremonies

June 9, 2024 by NewsLine Philippines

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Malacañang has mandated all national government agencies, instrumentalities, government-owned or controlled corporations (GOCCs), and educational institutions to incorporate the recital of the Bagong Pilipinas Hymn and Pledge into their weekly flag ceremonies.
This directive aims to promote the principles of Bagong Pilipinas across various sectors of government and society.

In a memorandum dated June 4, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin outlined the new requirement, emphasizing the importance of embedding the values and spirit of Bagong Pilipinas in the routine practices of government entities.

“The heads of all national government agencies and instrumentalities are instructed to ensure the Bagong Pilipinas Hymn and Pledge are properly disseminated and integrated within their respective institutions and offices,” the memo stated.

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) has been tasked with developing and implementing effective strategies to communicate and promote the Bagong Pilipinas Hymn and Pledge to all government offices and the general public.

This initiative is part of the broader ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ campaign launched by the administration, which serves as the guiding brand of governance and leadership. The campaign is designed to foster a principled, accountable, and dependable government, supported by cohesive and unified societal institutions.

Bagong Pilipinas envisions a transformative approach to governance, encouraging Filipinos to actively engage and support government efforts in pursuing comprehensive social and economic changes across all sectors. The goal is to create an inclusive environment where all citizens can participate in the nation’s progress.

The directive aligns with Section 18 of Republic Act (RA) No. 8491, also known as the “Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines,” which requires all government offices, including local government units (LGUs), to conduct a flag-raising ceremony every Monday morning and a flag-lowering ceremony every Friday afternoon.

By incorporating the Bagong Pilipinas Hymn and Pledge, these ceremonies will now also serve as a platform to reinforce national values and the administration’s vision for a new Philippines.

With this initiative, the government aims to unify the country under a shared identity and purpose, inspiring both government workers and the public to embody and advocate for the ideals of Bagong Pilipinas in their daily lives.
