Former President Rodrigo Duterte hints potential comeback as Mayor of Davao City. –

DAVAO CITY — Former President Rodrigo Duterte, known for his controversial war on drugs during his presidency, is now making a strong statement as he hints at a potential comeback as the Mayor of Davao City.

Duterte’s history with the war on drugs dates back to his time as the President and as Davao City Mayor for two decades, when he focused a significant part of his administration on eradicating drug-related activities in the Philippines and Davao.

During the Saturday night press conference, Duterte issued a stark warning to drug addicts, stating that if he were to become Mayor again, he would not hesitate to eliminate them.

He emphasized that he would instruct drug dealers to leave the city as he would take extreme measures to eradicate the drug problem, even going as far as to threaten their lives.

While Duterte did not outright confirm his intention to run for Mayor, he expressed reluctance towards a senatorial campaign due to his age and energy constraints. He reiterated his commitment to maintaining peace in Davao City and creating an environment conducive for children to thrive.

Duterte’s uncompromising stance on the war on drugs continues to be a prominent aspect of his public persona, and his recent statements suggest a potential resurgence of his controversial strategies if he were to reassume the position of Mayor in Davao City.

He also said he does not begrudge the children of his political rival, the late Davao First District Representative and House Speaker Prospero Nograles, to run for public office saying this is the essence democracy,

Duterte recently led the national convention of his political party, the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP).
