DAVAO CITY – Construction workers unearthed a vintage bomb while digging for a septic tank in a remote barangay on Tuesday morning.

Police Major Marcille Manzano, chief of the Sasa Police Precinct, said the workers discovered a hard object while digging and immediately reported it to the authorities.

“While digging for a septic tank, they noticed a hard object, which turned out to be a vintage bomb. Fortunately, they immediately informed the police, so we sent bomb experts to investigate,” Major Manzano explained.

The object was confirmed to be an Unexploded Ordnance (UXO). Members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) promptly responded to the scene in Purok 25, Safama Village, Panacan, around 7:45 a.m. The vintage bomb was found on the property of a resident known only as “Bert.”

Major Manzano cautioned residents in the area to exercise extreme care when digging, especially in areas that could have been used as depositories during World War II.

“We urge everyone to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious objects to the authorities immediately,” she added.

The EOD team has taken custody of the vintage bomb and commended the DCPO for its swift action in ensuring public safety.
