DAVAO CITY, Philippines — It is a sad Christmas for Davao people.
At 3:20 this morning, no less than President Rodrigo Duterte echoed to the families the briefing he got from the Bureau of Fire ground commander that “Chances of survival is zero” for the 37 missing employees trapped inside the comfort room of the third floor of NCCC Mall Davao building.
Duterte was emotional while he consoled the families and relatives of the victims.
His daughter Davao Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio joined him as they inspect the affected areas around the mall while rescue operation was ongoing in the most affected areas.
Duterte-Carpio vowed to support and help the families of the victims.
Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) and Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles along with some nuns and clergies Prayed stayed with the families and offered Prayers hoping for a miracle and chance of survival.
Valles emphasized the incident showed one thing “It showed how the Davao people helped each other during disaster, we are here for each other.”
“Continue to show the good example to compassion and love as Davao people,” he added.
While the firefighters took turns in the rescue operations, employees of the nearby S & R Membership shopping served pizza to the tired and hungry personnel.
Christmas is sad here, but one thing is sure–people of Davao will rise above all the challenge as One Davao, One People.-Editha Z. Caduaya/Newsline.ph
