DAVAO CITY —A bank security guard was killed as a robbery unfolded this morning, December 23, in the Municipality of Compostela, Davao de Oro, with over P3.6 million in cash stolen.
At around 8:00 a.m., a BDO employee was picking up cash from Mabuhay Enterprise when the robbery occurred.
Compostela Police Chief Lt. Col. Jesser Vagilidad in an interview with Newsline Philippines, revealed that the guard and a bank teller were about to leave the establishment when two armed suspects appeared and declared a hold-up.
“The guard resisted and tried to secure his shotgun, but one of the suspects shot him in the chest,” Vagilidad said.
The deceased guard was identified as James Pamasirsan Crucio, 24 years old, a security guard at BDO Network in Compostela Branch.
The suspects fled with more than P3.7 million in cash from the transaction.
The initial investigation by the Compostela Police revealed that the suspects walked toward their parked motorcycle in front of the establishment before fleeing the scene. They were later reported to have transferred to an SUV as they headed toward Monkayo.
Authorities have launched a manhunt operation and are on high alert to track down the perpetrators.
According to Vagilidad, this is the first major crime reported in Davao de Oro during the Christmas season.
