DAVAO CITY – A late-night bag-snatching incident took an unexpected turn when the thief lost control of his motorcycle and overturned, leading to the recovery of the stolen bag in Barrio Obrero, Davao City, on February 6, 2025, around 10:00 p.m.

The victim, identified only as alias “Bernadith,” a 21-year-old resident of Batolusa, Toril, reported the incident to Bajada Police Station 18 immediately after the attempted robbery.

According to Bernadith, she was walking with two friends along Porras Street when a man on a motorcycle suddenly snatched her shoulder bag. In shock, she jumped back and ran for safety while the thief sped off—only to lose control and crash just a few meters away.

Seizing the opportunity, Bernadith called for help, catching the attention of nearby tricycle drivers. One of them, alias “Julius,” immediately pursued the suspect as he attempted to escape on foot.

As Julius closed in, the desperate suspect threw the stolen shoulder bag aside before disappearing toward Sobrecarey Street, Obrero. Fortunately, the bag was retrieved with its contents intact.

Authorities are now tracking down the suspect using the abandoned motorcycle, which remains under police custody as evidence.

Police are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help prevent similar incidents in the city.
