Tropical Depression Agaton threatens Eastern Mindanao

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Strong winds and moderate rainshowers started to affect Davao areas as Tropical Depression Agaton is expected  to make a landfall evening of January 1 or dawn of January 2 in Caraga region.

In its ‘Weather Advisory No. 2 issued 9:35 pm  Thunderstorm is affecting #NorthernSamar #Masbate and nearby areas, which may persist within 2 to 3 hours.

All are advised to take precautionary measures against heavy rains, strong winds, lightning and possible flashfloods & landslide. Keep monitoring for updates.bulletin (1)

The advisory noted that if the LPA develops into a tropical depression, maritime operatiosn along the eastern seaboard of Mindanao — Surigao, Davao Orietnal, Dinagat Islands, and Siargao) and the eastern seaboard of Leyte provinces will be disrupted.

NDRRMC Executive Director Ricardo Jalad directed the DRRMCs nationwide to monitor the situation and undertake precautionary measures.


YELLOW WARNING LEVEL:
#Cebu; #Bohol; #Siquijor
FLOODING IS POSSIBLE in low-lying areas and LANDSLIDES in mountainous areas.

This information is based on current radar trends and all available meteorological data.
The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions, MONITOR the weather condition and watch for the next advisory to be issued.

The tropical depression continues to have maximum winds of 45 km/h and gustiness of up to 60 km/h.

southern Negros Oriental
southern Negros Occidental
Surigao del Norte including Siargao Island
Surigao del Sur
Dinagat Islands
Agusan del Norte
Agusan del Sur
Davao Oriental
Davao del Norte
Davao del Sur
North Cotabato
Compostela Valley
Misamis Oriental
Misamis Occidental
Lanao del Norte
Lanao del Sur
Camiguin
Bukidnon

Agaton could make landfall in Caraga either Monday night or Tuesday morning, January 2.

PAGASA also warned that residents of Bicol, the Visayas, Caraga, Davao, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, and North Cotabato should be on alert for possible flash floods and landslides.-Editha Z. Caduaya/Newsline.ph
