KIDAPAWAN CITY – Muslims in Kidapawan and neighboring areas gathered on Wednesday to celebrate Eid’l Fitr, one of the most significant Islamic festivals marking the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting, prayer, and reflection.

The celebration was attended by officials of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF)–Cotabato City, religious leaders from across the province of Cotabato, and representatives of the local government unit (LGU) of Kidapawan.

Eid’l Fitr, or the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” is a deeply spiritual and joyous occasion for Muslims, symbolizing renewal, gratitude, and unity. It is marked by congregational prayers, charitable giving, and communal gatherings that emphasize peace and compassion.

This year’s celebration in Kidapawan was especially meaningful following the passage of City Ordinance No. 14-07, also known as the Moro Code, on February 13, 2025.

The ordinance is a landmark piece of local legislation that formally recognizes the rights of the Moro community in Kidapawan City. It guarantees improved access to government services, social programs, and opportunities for meaningful participation in local governance and development initiatives.

Local leaders described the passage of the Moro Code as a historic step toward inclusivity and social justice. It reflects the city’s commitment to cultural sensitivity, religious freedom, and equal opportunity for all sectors of society.

The joint participation of the NCMF, religious leaders, and LGU officials in the Eid celebration is seen as a powerful symbol of unity and cooperation between Muslim communities and the local government.
