DAVAO CITY (May 2) – During an inspection of the ongoing Davao River Bucana Bridge Project, DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, together with Undersecretary Emil Sadain, MinDA Chairperson Sec. Leo Magno, and other DPWH officials, observed the rapid progress of the construction.

The bridge will connect to another phase of the ongoing Davao Coastal Road project.

While initial reports projected the bridge’s completion by the end of 2025, officials now say that it will already be passable to vehicles by November 2025.

According to DPWH officials, the bridge deck connection — which includes the installation of girders, beams, and the roadway surface — is scheduled for completion by June 2025.

The 1.34-kilometer Davao River Bridge, funded with PHP 3.126 billion under an Official Development Assistance (ODA) grant from the Government of the People’s Republic of China, is a major infrastructure investment for the city.

One of its key features is a 480.20-meter extradosed bridge design, with each pier supported by 10 stay cables — a modern engineering solution that ensures strength, reliability, and adds to the aesthetic appeal of Davao City.

Once fully connected to the Davao Coastal Road, the bridge is expected to ease traffic congestion heading toward downtown Davao, accommodating an estimated 35,000 vehicles daily.

This project will not only improve transportation flow but will also contribute to the region’s economic growth.

The Bucana Bridge Project is one of the priority infrastructure projects under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s “Build Better More” program, as confirmed by the DPWH.
