DAVAO CITY (May 3) —- A businessman has filed criminal complaint against Davao City First District Representative Paolo Duterte, the eldest son for former President Rodrigo Duterte.
Businessman Kristone John Patria filed a complaint before the Department of Justice alleging physical assault and grave threats during an incident at a Davao City bar in February 2025.
According to the complaint filed on May 2, 2025, Patria claims that on February 23, 2025, Duterte physically assaulted him and attempted to stab him with a knife inside the Hearsay Gastropub in Barangay Obrero, Davao City. Patria did not seek immediate medical attention following the incident, citing Duterte’s influential status as a deterrent to prompt action.
The complaint references potential CCTV footage from the bar that may corroborate Patria’s allegations. However, as of now, the authenticity of the footage has not been verified by authorities.
Representative Duterte has not issued a official public statement regarding the allegations.
Duterte in a interview with a Vlogger said his lawyers are awaiting the authentication of the purported video evidence before making any comments.
The DOJ has acknowledged the receipt of the complaint and is currently reviewing the allegations. Prosecutor General Richard Anthony Fadullon confirmed that the complaint includes charges under Article 265 (Physical Injuries) and Article 282 (Grave Threats) of the Revised Penal Code.
This complaint adds to the series of controversies involving members of the Duterte family.
The outcome of this case could have significant implications for Representative Duterte’s political career and the public perception of the Duterte family’s influence in Philippine politics.
