DAVAO CITY (August 14) – DavaoeƱos and tourists flocked to SM Lanang as the highly anticipated Durian Festival kicked off on August 12, running until September 14, in celebration of Davao City’s famed ā€œKing of Fruits.ā€

Coinciding with the vibrant Kadayawan Festival, the event is spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture XI’s Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD), in partnership with the Durian Industry Association of Davao City (DIADC), the Bureau of Plant Industry, local government units, and various fruit industry stakeholders.

The festival showcases premium durians alongside other local fruits such as rambutan, mangosteen, marang, lanzones, and pomelo. Agriculture Regional Executive Director Macario D. Gonzaga said the celebration aims not only to promote durian but also to expand its market. ā€œThis Durian Festival is more than just promoting durian in time for Kadayawan, but realizing that it is through collective effort that we will prosper,ā€ he said.

DIADC President Emmanuel Belviz echoed this sentiment, expressing hope for the continued success of the industry and urging the community to unite in celebration.

The month-long festival invites everyone to savor the rich flavors and vibrant culture that make Davao City a true fruit capital.
