DAVAO CITY (August 23) – Entities involved in the construction of the Ma-a Magtuod Overpass in Davao City have committed to completing the project by March 2026.

During Tuesday’s 21st City Council session, representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Gemma Construction and Supply Inc., Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC), Globe, and PLDT reiterated their timelines and roles in the project’s completion.

DPWH noted that progress largely depends on the removal of DLPC’s transmission poles that obstruct road widening works. DLPC President and COO Enriczar Tia assured the Council that the poles could be removed within two to three months, requiring three sets of scheduled 10-hour power interruptions. “We will time it properly and announce ahead to manage expectations,” Tia said.

Both Globe and PLDT confirmed that they are coordinating closely with DLPC to reroute their cables in preparation for pole removal. Gemma Construction representative Jay Salvosa explained that while the bridge itself is finished, work on the approaches cannot proceed until the obstructions are cleared.

DPWH engineer James Arieta reported that right-of-way issues have been resolved, clearing the way for DLPC’s relocation work. Once the poles are removed, DPWH said it would need about three more months to complete the access roads and approaches.

“With DLPC committing to finish removals in two to three months, our office can complete the remaining structures by March 2026,” DPWH spokesperson Dean Ortiz said.

To ensure close monitoring, the City Council also approved the creation of a special committee chaired by Councilor Jessica Bonguyan, with Councilors Louie Bonguyan, Bai Hundra Cassandra Advincula, Luna Acosta, and Jopet Baluran as members.
