BUTUAN CITY (September 3) – After getting government assistance, a group of farmers in Tago, Surigao del Sur, made income by selling harvested soybean products directly.

Over the weekend, the Meme Agricultural Farmers Association (MAGFA) sold 7,574 kilos of soybeans for PHP215,774 to a buyer in Davao City.

MAGFA is one of the province’s soybean producers who received government assistance and intervention this year through the Caraga Region’s Department of Agriculture (DA-13).

“The DA-13 supported the group to increase their soybean production, including the provision of seeds and fertilizers,” Claire Ilagan, DA-13’s soybean focal person, said in a statement on Tuesday.

She added that MAGFA acquired a soybean sorter for roughly PHP500,000, a soybean thresher worth PHP600,000, and a solar dryer worth around PHP400,000.Lynn Pareñas, the head of the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division, emphasized in a separate statement on Tuesday the significance of connecting the group with the market for their products.

“Giving our local farmers access to markets is one way we help. By supplying high-quality goods, direct marketing enables our soybean farmers to generate more profits per unit,” Pareñas stated.

She also mentioned that DA-13 is still supporting soybean cultivation in the Caraga Region as a profitable commercial venture.
