DAVAO CITY (September 5) – The City Government of Davao, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), continues to extend assistance to survivors and families of the victims of the Roxas Night Market bombing. To date, 32 children from affected families are receiving educational aid from the CSWDO.

On Tuesday, survivors and families gathered at the memorial site to mark the ninth anniversary of the 2016 tragedy. They offered prayers and flowers in solemn remembrance of the 14 lives lost and 68 others injured during the September 2 blast.

Acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte joined the commemoration, expressing solidarity with the victims’ families and emphasizing the importance of remembering their struggles.

“The first thing that comes to my mind are people like you who have endured tragedies in life,” Duterte said, adding that his role in public service is guided by the challenges faced by Dabawenyos. He assured the public that he is always open to listen to their concerns.

“I want you to remember that whenever you see me, you can always approach me, whether you simply want to talk or you need help—I am here for you,” he added.

The City Government also reiterated its call for residents to embrace a culture of security to ensure that Davao remains a safe place for all.
