DAVAO CITY (September 28) – The provincial government of Davao del Norte announced Friday the creation of a special inspection team to investigate major national projects in the province, including the PHP400-million Tuganay Bridge in Carmen town.
Governor Edwin Jubahib earlier called for a probe into the bridge project, which began in 2021, was suspended in 2022, and resumed in 2023. While the southbound lane was opened to motorists in December 2023, the northbound lane remains unfinished.
“To avoid bias during the inspection, I included 15 mega-provincial projects, along with those implemented by the DPWH and the National Irrigation Administration,” Jubahib said. He stressed that the team’s goal is to identify irregularities and hold contractors and agencies accountable.
The announcement followed DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon’s directive to the DPWH-11 (Davao Region) on Thursday to provide him with complete details of the Tuganay Bridge project. “It’s the first time I heard it here. Send me the details and we will look at it,” Dizon said.
