400 houses affected in Davao fire

DAVAO CITY (October 3) — A massive fire razed more than 400 houses on Wednesday evening, October 2, leaving hundreds of families in Barangay 21, Piapi Boulevard displaced.

What could have been a night of despair turned into a moment of hope for residents as quick response teams immediately arrived at the scene.

Among those affected was Jabar Flores, who lost his home and nearly his life to the blaze.
“Nasunogan mi, tapot lawas nadala. Pasalamat mi nga naabot dayon ang CSDWO, VMO, ug ang opisina ni Congressman. Bisag panihapon wala gyud mi (Everything perished, we only got the lothes we wore, We are grateful that the CSDWO, VMO, and the Congressman’s office arrived quickly. We cannot even afford diner)”Flores said, holding back tears.

Barangay Captain Joenard Gabrillo confirmed the extent of the destruction, 400 houses were affected, the fire was amssive.

The fire left hundreds of families homeless, but immediate relief arrived and immediately distributed food packs, clothing, and emergency aid, ensuring no one went hungry even as the fire’s embers still glowed.

As of press time, assessment and listing of affected families remain ongoing, with barangay officials working closely with city responders to determine the full scope of assistance needed.

Despite the heavy loss, the bayanihan spirit shone through Piapi Boulevard — proof that even in tragedy, compassion and quick action can light the way forward.
