Tulfo to Cambodia: Stop traffickers exploiting Filipino workers

MANILA (October 23) — Senator Raffy Tulfo has urged Cambodia to crack down on human trafficking syndicates using the country as a transit point for Filipino workers.

“These traffickers are using Cambodia as a route to exploit our people. This must stop,” Tulfo said during the ASEAN+3 (Korea, Japan, China) meeting at the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva on October 19.

Tulfo called on Cambodian authorities to tighten border controls and arrest the masterminds behind the rising number of trafficking cases involving Filipinos. He warned that the problem has become a serious regional concern.

Fighting fake news

In the same forum, Senator Erwin Tulfo urged lawmakers to take stronger action against fake news and online disinformation, which he said undermines public trust and fuels division.

“Our task is not to silence voices, but to safeguard truth,” Erwin said.

He pushed for tougher accountability measures and media literacy programs, especially for the youth, to help citizens spot falsehoods online.

The Philippine delegation to the IPU also included Senator Imee Marcos and Representatives Ferdinand Hernandez, Kristine Singson-Meehan, Ma. Georgina De Venecia, Maria Rachel Arenas, Faustino Michael Carlos Dy III, Brian Poe-Llamanzares, Jonathan Clement Abalos II, and Florabel Yatco.
