MANILA (October 30) – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Sunday welcomed the formal declaration of the Association of General and Flag Officers (AGFO), which rejected destabilization efforts and expressed full confidence in military leadership.

In a statement, the AFP said: “We extend our sincere appreciation to AGFO for their ‘Manifesto of Unwavering Support and Solidarity.’ This affirmation from leaders who dedicated the prime of their lives to service underscores the shared commitment of both active and retired officers to uphold the Constitution, respect civilian authority, and preserve military professionalism.”

The AFP described AGFO’s message as a strong reminder that unity among past and present ranks remains one of the military’s greatest strengths, emphasizing non-partisanship and the rejection of unconstitutional acts as guiding principles for all soldiers, airmen, sailors, and marines.

“The unified voice of our retired and active leaders reaffirms that the AFP remains a pillar of stability and a steadfast guardian of democracy,” the military said.

AGFO, composed of retired and active generals and flag officers from the AFP, PNP, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and Bureau of Fire Protection, issued the manifesto in response to “political noise and agitations from certain sectors calling for the AFP to withdraw support from the duly elected President and Commander-in-Chief.”

The group condemned any calls for military involvement in unconstitutional acts, citing Article XVI, Section 5 of the Constitution, which mandates the AFP be insulated from partisan politics. AGFO reaffirmed its full confidence in AFP leadership and emphasized that civilian supremacy and the sanctity of the Constitution remain the foundation of Philippine democracy.
