Beware: SEC warns Caraga of Online Job Scam disguised as easy earnings

BUTUAN CITY (December 1) — The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in Caraga has warned residents against falling for an online job-offer scam disguised as a video-watching “tasking” scheme run by OHO Marketing Ltd. and OHO Digital Marketing Agency.

In an advisory Friday, SEC-Butuan said the two entities—claiming to be based in the US and the UK—are not authorized to solicit investments from the public but continue to recruit Filipinos through Facebook.

‘Watch videos, earn money?’ — SEC says it’s a trap

OHO’s Facebook page, “OHO Tasking (Marketing Ltd.) Philippines,” invites people to register and perform tasks such as watching videos or songs and rating them.

The company’s income charts promise unrealistic earnings:

₱1,600 investment → ₱55/day
₱4,500 investment → 10 tasks/day at ₱15/task
₱12,800 investment → 15 tasks/day at ₱30/task

But according to SEC-Butuan, recruits cannot withdraw their supposed earnings. Instead, they are repeatedly asked to “recharge” or put in more money before they can cash out—a payout that never comes.

“Only initial, small withdrawals are allowed to make the scam look legitimate,” the SEC said.

How the scam hooks victims

SEC-Butuan said OHO uses a mix of “job scam/tasking” and “recharging scam” tactics—tricking people into thinking they are hired for simple online work but forcing them to invest first before earning.

The office stressed that OHO Marketing Ltd. / OHO Tasking Ltd. is not registered as a corporation or partnership in the Philippines and holds no license to solicit investments.

No complaints yet — but the warning stands

Although no formal complaints have reached their office, SEC-Butuan said it is ramping up information drives because OHO operates purely online and can quickly target large numbers of Caraganons.

“We are warning the public about this kind of scam,” SEC-Butuan said. “We want residents to stay vigilant.”
