First fire in Davao City in 2026

DAVAO CITY (January 2, 2026) —An old electrical line has been identified as the cause of a fire that gutted a residential house in Davao City, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

Initial investigation revealed that the blaze broke out at a house located at 575 Leon Maria Guerrero Street, Barangay 30-C, owned by Emilio Miguel Uy, 66. Police and fire records show the fire started at around 3:14 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026, jolting residents awake in the early hours of the morning.

Firefighters immediately responded and managed to place the fire under control at around 3:59 a.m., before finally declaring it fire out at approximately 5:03 a.m.

As of this writing, authorities have not yet determined the total cost of damage caused by the blaze. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters from the Filipino Chinese Fire Fighters of Davao Incorporated also assisted in extinguishing another fire that broke out at a burned house in Villa Abrille along J.P. Laurel Avenue, Bajada, at around 3:00 a.m. on the same day.

The BFP renewed its call for homeowners to regularly inspect electrical wiring, particularly in older houses, to prevent similar incidents.
