DAVAO CITY (January 15)  — A citywide free measles-rubella vaccination drive will run from January 19 to February 13, targeting about 154,000 children as Davao City moves to protect its zero-measles status.

The City Health Office (CHO) said vaccination teams will be deployed daily across all districts, satellite health centers, and communities to reach children aged six months to 59 months. The campaign aims for at least 95 percent coverage to ensure strong community protection.

Dr. Annaliza Malubay, medical coordinator of the CHO’s national immunization program, said the city cannot afford complacency even after recording no measles cases in 2025.

“We had no positive measles cases last year, but many children from other regions come into Davao,” Malubay said. “That’s why we need to intensify vaccination to keep our children safe.”

Parents and guardians are advised to coordinate with village health workers for schedules and vaccination sites.

Health officials warned that measles is highly contagious, with one infected person capable of spreading the virus to 12 to 18 others—making widespread vaccination essential to prevent outbreaks and protect the wider community.
