MANILA, Philippines  — Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Isidro Lapeña on Monday said he is ready to relieve port personnel including District Collectors, who will not be able to meet their collection target this month.

In a memorandum dated Feb. 6, the BOC chief noted that aside from District Collectors, deputy collectors for assessment, chief of Formal Entry Division, examiners, appraisers and all personnel in charge of assessment will also be relieved if they fail to meet the revenue target.

With this, Lapena clarified that the relief will take effect on March after the collection period in February.

“Since I have just assigned some new collectors this January, we will base the relief on their February collection performance,” he said in a statement.

On the other hand, preliminary data of its Financial Service show that the bureau collected PHP40.798 billion in the first month of the year against the PHP46.394 billion target.

Despite falling short by 12 percent from its January collection target, Lapeña is optimistic that they will reach the 2018 collection target of PHP598 billion.

Meanwhile, the BOC chief awarded 12 of the 17 BOC district collectors for meeting their revenue target based on preliminary figures during the Monday’s flag raising ceremony.

Among them are:
– Port of San Fernando which collected PHP256 million (0.7 percent above its target of PHP254 million)
· Port of Legazpi which collected PHP24 million (9.8 percent above its target of PHP22 million)
· Port of Iloilo which collected PHP270 million (7.4 percent above its target of PHP251 million)
· Port of Cebu which collected PHP2.271 billion (8.6 percent above its target of PHP2.091 billion)
· Port of Tacloban which collected PHP34 million (59.9 percent above its target of PHP21 million)
· Port of Surigao which collected PHP4 million (261.9 percent above its target of PHP1 million)
· Port of Cagayan de Oro which collected PHP1.616 billion (23.3 percent above its target of PHP1.310 billion)
· Port of Davao which collected PHP1.785 billion (19.9 percent above its target of PHP1.489 billion)
· Port of Subic which collected PHP1.683 billion (0.8 percent above its target of PHP1.670 billion)
· Port of Clark which collected PHP135 million (10.7 percent above its target of PHP122 million)
· Port of Aparri which collected PHP5.6 million (39.5 percent above its target of PHP4 million)
· Port of Limay which collected PHP2.839 billion (0.6 percent above its target of PHP2.823 billion)

Meanwhile, Lapeña announced the appointment of four new officials of the Bureau.

They are: Deputy Commissioner of Management and Information Systems Technology Group Noel Patrick Prudente; Enforcement Security and Service Director Yogi Filemon Ruiz; Customs Intelligence and Investigation Division Director Adzhar Albani; Import Assessment Division Director Jeoffrey Tacio.

“The newly appointed directors are no longer officials of PDEA but of the BOC who will help strengthen the policies and reforms we are making,” he added. –PNA
